I was so excited to see that Miss UVA featured Erin McDermott featured in DC Nearlyweds..Check it out here!
I met Miss UVA (a writer for the blog,DC Nearlyweds) last year & let me tell you, Miss UVA also translates to Miss Fabulous….she practically saved my life in all this wedding planning. A week after I got engaged (almost a year ago), Miss UVA handed me her “all-you-need-to-know-about-planning-a-wedding-is-right-in-here” binder & told me to look through it and use anything I needed. The binder translated to my bible of wedding planning and Miss UVA set me up with everything I needed to make the process flow smoothly. She had pages full of inspiration (not to mention, this girl has impeccable taste), check-lists, budget worksheets, tear-outs, DIY ideas, etc. Anything I needed was right there and all my fears and stress were put to rest. Check out her blog…she’s hysterical, creative, and one of the most organized people I have ever met.

City Art Works was one of the first gems I fell in love with when I moved down to Charlotte. This adorable boutique has the perfect mix of jewelry, wall art, and home goodies. The perfect store if you’re looking for a special gift for someone. I’m happy to say that City Art Works is now carrying Erin McDermott Jewelry. If you’re in the area, make sure to go in and take a look.

I was honored to be asked to give a jewelry presentation to the Young Affiliates of the Mint Museum of Charlotte. Two nights ago, I was able to share my story and talk about how I started my jewelry business. I discussed the process of jewelry making, my day to day schedule, the struggles I face on a daily basis, and the satisfaction and love I get from my job. I had a fabulous time chatting with the Young Affiliates and even gave a demonstration on how I design my disc necklaces. Afterward, the group had a chance to do a little jewelry shopping for the season.

If you haven’t had a chance to go by Sustain, a luxury eco-friendly boutique located in Charlottesville, you’re missing out! This awesome boutique carries some of my favorite designers and 2% of all the profits are donated to an environmental non-profit. Several people have been asking me where they can find my chunky turquoise and leather necklaces (with gold findings), and your question is answered. Sustain is selling them along with several other latest designs from my line.

When I first moved to Charlotte, I had a few suggestions from friends of places to go, things to do, people to meet…but, it was waxMAMA that always had the latest happenings. Each morning, waxMAMA sends out an e-mail telling you the place to be or what NOT to miss…just to make sure that you’re always up to speed. I was psyched to see the article today…take a look for yourself & sign up to get an e-mail sent right to you first thing in the morning.

I’m excited to have my disc necklaces at Lark & Key art gallery. Lark & Key is located in NODA, Charlotte’s historic arts district. I think that the name of the gallery is perfect for the vibe of gallery… A Lark is a symbol of creativity and freedom of spirit and keys represent the opening of doors and new journeys.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of speaking to the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottesville about owning my own jewelry business. The group of young and talented girls asked questions about pursuing dreams, thinking big, and overcoming obstacles. After the presentation, we made jewelry together & I had a great time watching these girls shine. I came home on Friday to find a package full of hand-written letters from the girls listening to the presentation. Each one had written a letter thanking me for believing in them and letting me know that they will never give up on their dreams. What an amazing group of girls!

Erin McDermott, of Charlottesville, Virginia is one of the new wave of jewelry designers who, because of the internet is able to reside in the artsy, creative community that inspires her and nevertheless maintain a vibrant national presence. In addition to her line of funky everyday wear her wedding jewelry is gaining broad attention. Why? Because she personally designs and crafts each piece, so no two are exactly alike. However each member of the wedding party wears a piece that is clearly related by color and design those pieces worn by the other members of the party. Moreover, the bride and the maid of honor are adorned with pieces that show a little extra flair, while perfectly harmonizing with the bridesmaids.
After the wedding Erin’s pieces are treasured because they can be worn, not only with cocktail dresses and formal wear, but with jeans and a tee shirt as well for a casual, yet sexy mix. Because she takes great care of packaging her orders in natural and attractive “green” materials each necklace or earring arrives as a welcome and tantalizing gift.
