Sarah Cramer
To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch… to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. this is to have succeeded!
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
This quote sums up Sarah Cramer. A few weeks ago I met Sarah at her studio in downtown, Charlottesville. Sarah is one of the photographer’s for an exhibition featuring women in the arts & I was thrilled to be part of this group. Sarah truly loves what she does…not only is she a photographer, but she is a giver & supporter…she is an optimist and it is nearly impossible to be in a negative mood around this girl. Like the quote says, Sarah easily has earned the appreciation of all those around her & she certainly makes this world a better place. She finds the best in others and looks for & appreciates beauty in everything that she sees. Sarah has made countless people “breath easier” and she has certainly succeeded! I’ve included a photo from our shoot together below & Take a look at her website here.

Erin & Sukie in Skirt
Eleanor Scott, the editor of Skirt Magazine, called me a few months ago and told me that they were doing a feature on women who started on a career path and decided to follow their passion, instead. As many of you know, I graduated from University of Virginia with a Masters in Teaching and a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art. I taught school in Charlottesville for two years (coming home after school and designing jewelry till all hours of the night) & realized that my real passion lies in jewelry design. I decided it’s now or never….go for it & go for it with all my heart. Although I’ve never worked harder in my life, I couldn’t be happier with the decision. I am so lucky to wake up in the morning, dance a few steps across the hall into my jewelry studio, turn on some music, take out my tools, and get to work. Check out the article here or pick up the April issue of Charlotte Skirt Magazine.
(naturally) Sukie came along for the photo shoot
featured in…D.C. Nearlyweds
I was so excited to see that Miss UVA featured Erin McDermott featured in DC Nearlyweds..Check it out here!
I met Miss UVA (a writer for the blog,DC Nearlyweds) last year & let me tell you, Miss UVA also translates to Miss Fabulous….she practically saved my life in all this wedding planning. A week after I got engaged (almost a year ago), Miss UVA handed me her “all-you-need-to-know-about-planning-a-wedding-is-right-in-here” binder & told me to look through it and use anything I needed. The binder translated to my bible of wedding planning and Miss UVA set me up with everything I needed to make the process flow smoothly. She had pages full of inspiration (not to mention, this girl has impeccable taste), check-lists, budget worksheets, tear-outs, DIY ideas, etc. Anything I needed was right there and all my fears and stress were put to rest. Check out her blog…she’s hysterical, creative, and one of the most organized people I have ever met.

An Evening with the Young Affiliates of the Mint Museum
I was honored to be asked to give a jewelry presentation to the Young Affiliates of the Mint Museum of Charlotte. Two nights ago, I was able to share my story and talk about how I started my jewelry business. I discussed the process of jewelry making, my day to day schedule, the struggles I face on a daily basis, and the satisfaction and love I get from my job. I had a fabulous time chatting with the Young Affiliates and even gave a demonstration on how I design my disc necklaces. Afterward, the group had a chance to do a little jewelry shopping for the season.

Boys and Girls Club
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of speaking to the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottesville about owning my own jewelry business. The group of young and talented girls asked questions about pursuing dreams, thinking big, and overcoming obstacles. After the presentation, we made jewelry together & I had a great time watching these girls shine. I came home on Friday to find a package full of hand-written letters from the girls listening to the presentation. Each one had written a letter thanking me for believing in them and letting me know that they will never give up on their dreams. What an amazing group of girls!
