On my last buying trip to NY, I spotted neon everyplace I went…from the trim on jackets to the straps of stilettos, bright colors of yellow & pink neon were all around me. I wanted to create a necklace with a pop of color, but not an overwhelming amount of neon. I decided to use lightweight gold wooden beads and contrast it with a rubber neon bead to give this necklace a funky but bohemian feel that would look great with jeans and a t-shirt. Choose from yellow or gold beads.
The “Love & Hope for Cookies” necklace is a custom necklace made especially for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. This piece is handmade using sterling silver and 14Kgf. Love & Hope are engraved into each necklace & these two inspirational words remind us of the mission of Cookies for Kids Cancer. Cookies for Kids Cancer, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation dedicated to raising funds for pediatric cancer research, was founded in 2008 by Gretchen and Larry Witt. Their son Liam was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma in 2007 & they learned that cancer is the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. cancers. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer is committed to raising funds for research to develop new, improved treatments for pediatric cancer. With every purchase of the “Love & Hope for Cookies” necklace, 15% of the proceeds will go to funding for research on the fight against pediatric cancer.
This necklace was featured in the May 2013 issue of Real Simple Magazine! This blue and yellow colorblock piece is a rare find because it’s difficult to locate a piece of jewelry with vibrant yellow beads and complimenting blue. This is a great little gem to wear with any solid color including green, red, magenta, black and purple!
Happy Saturday Evening! Today, I am thrilled to bring you the California Coastal Collection! These colorful clutches are perfect for carrying jewelry when you travel – whether it’s across the country or to the gym. The best thing about these clutches, however, is that they are both functional and stylish. Not only can you use the pouch to hold jewelry, but it also doubles as a clutch for evenings and outings.
You may or may not know that I am obsessed with small bags and clutches. With a business like Erin McDermott Jewelry, it seems like I always have tons of small items to tote around to shows. Mostly, I carry jewelry, but I also bring along lots of wire, mountings, and tools, so that I can create a custom piece right on the spot. I have found that small bags are the perfect way to stay organized when I’m on the road!
I was inspired to create the California Coastal Collection when I traveled to California a few times this past year. I had carefully planned out the outfits I would wear, and, of course, picked out jewelry to compliment them. When I was getting ready for dinner on the first night of the trip, I realized that I had forgotten to pack a bag for the evening. The large leather purse that I use during the day was a little bit of an overkill, because all I needed was someplace to store my phone, ID, some cash and lip gloss. That’s when I realized how nice it would be if one of the many small bags that I carry when I travel could also function as a cute clutch in the evening.
That trip sparked the idea for the California Coastal Collection. The fabric patterns are influenced by the bright colors and laid-back lifestyle of the towns along the California coast. Each bag is lined with a contrasting, yet complimentary fabric for a fun “pop” inside. When you open the clutch, you will find a large pocket for carrying necklaces and bracelets, and a smaller pocket for rings and earrings. But, it is also the perfect size to hold the basic essentials for a night on the town. So, without further ado, I bring you the California Coastal Collection!
With spring and summer on the horizon, I know we are all looking forward to introducing bright colors and fun patterns into our wardrobe. Be sure to include the California Coastal Collection … both for function and for fun!
We are having so much fun designing with new shapes and finishes here in the studio. The Monaco earrings are made from a beautiful gold matte finish and either have a lovely touch of a black onyx or sea foam green ammonite hanging from the oval. These are lightweight and are 1.75″ in length. Another beautiful pair to add to your collection.
The charcoal guitars and yellow gemstone on the outside of this clutch remind me of the wonderful time that I had in Manhattan Beach visiting a wonderful friend of mine, Mariel. Manhattan Beach is the type of place that you want to spend every moment outside riding bikes or playing the guitar while watching the surfers. As soon as the sun rises, you’re inspired to stroll down The Strand to a favorite coffee shop or practice yoga in the sand. The pink, white, and orange colors from the fabric on the inside of this clutch remind me of the incredible sunsets right outside her sweet bungalow.
The blue and white geometric design & white chunky turquoise on the outside of this clutch reminds me of the fabulous Art festivals at the Fisherman’s Wharf in Monteray. When you open this clutch, you’ll find a bright yellow and white chevron pattern that is inspired by the upbeat Monteray Jazz Festival. Navy has become one of my favorite colors and I love the way the bold print compliments the bright yellow pattern inside.
The pink, light grey and ivory guitars matched with the light blue turquoise stone on the outside of this clutch is complimented by a creative pattern of tree rings. This clutch is inspired by the eccentric spirit and bohemian lifestyle of Venice Beach. This clutch would be perfect for bringing along to scan the shelves at Small World Books or walking down Abbot Kinney to try a Chai at Intelligentsia. An artsy little number for the creative spirit.
San Fransisco is one of my favorite cities and the bright coral geometric fabric and organic turquoise stone reminds me of the excitement I felt walking the Golden Gate bridge, sitting in Alamo Square Park eating sushi, and listening to music at an outdoor concert. The grey and white crisp chevron compliments the bright coral & gives this clutch a perfect city chic feel.
La Jolla is a lovely town on the California Coast and I chose this fabric to remind me of the blue mint waters we looked into while having an outdoor lunch in one of the coves. This clutch is perfect for walking around town & popping in and out of art galleries. The series of 6 coral beads on top of this clutch and the grey and white chevron remind me of the gorgeous cliffs in this cozy beach town.
The blues and turquoises in the Santa Barbara Clutch stir up memories of the watercolor paintings in the Santa Barbara Museum of art and the pops of yellow in the ikat fabric are reminiscent of the many lemon and orange trees around the town of Santa Barbara. The lovely white turquoise on this clutch remind me of the gorgeous quaint white rock paths and cottages at San Ysidro Ranch. Inside this clutch, you will find a bright turquoise hounds tooth print.
I’m so excited for Laine and Rob Iten’s gorgeous weddings to be featured in Martha Stewart’s Real Weddings ! I just loved flipping through these photos to see Laine’s incredible vision come to life on her special day. I was so honored to design the jewelry for her bridesmaids and loved how Laine worked with me to make sure that each pair of earrings captured the essence of each girl. As it says in the article, “Each piece of jewelry was designed especially for each girl, as a nod to her own strengths and personalities.” Here’s to a long life of happiness and love. xoxo
This gorgeous custom piece is made from individual slivers of ice quartz. It creates a look that is unique and classic. It is bold but not overpowering to create a huge statement. *photo by meg runion studios.
