DIY

I’ve always been a DIY (Do it yourself) lover… I’m all about any projects that I  can create from home and turn into something crafty, original, and one-of-a-kind. DIY projects are fairly inexpensive and you can put your own individual twist on them.  My friend Laine keeps an awesome blog (click here) where she adds great DIY projects that she’s tried. I’m still dying to try the glass etching and salted caramels that she wrote about.  Here are a few other DIY projects that might be fun to undertake this year! I found them all here!

Happy Holidays!

Oh my golly…where did the time go? I hope that everyone has had a wonderful holiday season. I feel like these past few weeks have been a complete whirlwind with Thanksgiving in Knoxville, a holiday weekend in NYC, and Christmas in Williamsburg! It’s been great being around loved ones and finally being able to sit down with the fam, tell stories from the past year, laugh, drink eggnog, stuff our faces, and as they say…be merry.  It was an amazing Christmas and I’m so grateful for this past year and all we have to look forward to in 2012!  I’m taking these next few days to organize, re-organize, and [did I mention, organize]…getting ready for another exciting and prosperous year for Erin McDermott Jewelry!

Here are a few photos from Christmas in Williamsburg!

Freshwater Pearl Hair Piece

I recently finished this custom freshwater pearl hair piece for a bride & was really excited with the way that it came together. She wanted something simple and delicate that could be used at the base of her veil. I can’t wait to see photos from her wedding day.

Wine Bottles

Each morning, I walk into my studio with my cup of coffee, get ready to hunker down for a day of work, and start by lighting a few candles.  With all the chaos and jewelry materials floating around my work area, it’s nice to have a little peace with one or two candles. This morning, I lit this candle that my friend Liz gave me a few weeks ago for my birthday.  It literally burned for 9 hours straight and was fantastically lovely every second of the way.  Did I mention that it’s made from a recycled wine bottles?…

So, it got me thinkin’ over here about all the awesome things that can be made with old wine bottles.  Each bottle has unique shades of green, purple, red and brown and the possibilities are endless of how to incorporate them into your home. Here are a few creative ways to  use old vino bottles! Cheers.

Houndstooth

A few weeks ago I was shopping in one of my favorite stores in Charlotte, Cottage Chic, and came across a cute & cozy houndstooth blanket. I planned on giving it to my older sis for Christmas, but I couldn’t resist the temptation of  unwrapping it the second I got home and squeezing in a little snuggle session.  Looks like I’m going to have refer to plan B for her gift. Since then, I’ve been spotting houndstooth everywhere & i’m really getting into it. Here are a few of my faves:

Holiday Shows…

Good evening all you wonderful lovelies!  Oh, how much joy it brings me to finally sit down the night before Thanksgiving and thank you all for your support these past two weeks while I’ve been traveling for a whirlwind of holiday jewelry shows.  I feel so grateful for each of you and appreciate (so so very much…oh so much)  your love and support with my jewelry. A special thanks to Anna Moore, Kate Fitzgerald, Amy Schaaf, Liz Schoening, and Katheryn Cella Woodruff for hosting jewelry shows. Thank you also to Hampton Stationery, The Jr. League Mistletoe Market, and the awesome girls for the Holiday Craft show. Round 2 starts up again after Thanksgiving, but I’m so excited to relax this week, spend lots of time with friends and family, and eats lots of pumpkin pie!

Thanks again to Dickie Morris, Meg Runion, and Cary Oliva who participated in the Holiday Craft Show last week!
